TED KENNEDY IS DEAD AND BURIED / A EULOGY
8/30/09
I could barely believe it when I heard that Ol’ Ted Kennedy kicked the bucket. I always thought that he was indestructible. The guy might have been wearing a Superman costume in his closed coffin. A remarkable guy regardless of what you know or feel about him. He was the only man in the world who could make Bill Clinton look holy . All Clinton supposedly did was have an affair or two. So did Teddy and his Hero brothers, but Teddy got a letter of forgiveness for murder and adultery from the Pope. I wonder if G.W could ever match Ted Kennedy’s Pomp and Ceremony and Hypocrisy?
I have kept quiet the last few months , not writing about Obama or Kennedy. I couldn’t figure out what the hell either of them were doing. Kennedy only one month away from his death writes a letter to the Pope to try and impress him with his credentials and have Obama deliver his letter personally. Then the letter was to be read by the priest over Kennedy’s casket. It is amazing to me that this guy was such a narcissistic punk. He had to plead with the Pope for forgiveness; instead of God! Ted Kennedy was so far into the rat hole of politics that he had to beg his soul’s forgiveness from a former German Nazi named Ratzinger. Isn’t that complete irony? Karma? I don’t know how to explain Ted Kennedy. A New Yorker I spoke to recently told me, he never liked the” Kennedy thing” and no one should be above the law.” I understood his dislike and felt much the same way. Then I spoke to a Boston Democrat Reformed Catholic LIBERAL; who felt “Teddy” should be forgiven because he was such a great man, who suffered many tragedies. She is also against the death penalty.
My sincerest sympathies go out to the Kennedy family and I am certain their sacrifices for the nation will always be honored. I could not help but feel sorrow for Joan Kennedy as she entered the cathedral alone. She appeared lost and angry questionably intoxicated as several family members and secret service men surrounded her and guided her out of camera range. CSPAN had great coverage of the Library and Cathedral ceremonies.
I honestly laughed when I saw the look on Barack Obama’s face as he drifted off into “I love Ted Kennedy Land. He was looking upward in a trance, as though he were connected to the beam of light in his eyes. I was extremely relieved that the U.S wasn’t attacked by terrorist rockets or nuclear weapons at that moment. I don’t think Obama’s reaction would have been any different than G.W’s was in that first grade class room in Florida, when he read “My Pet Goat” with the book turned upside down.
One last thought on Ted Kennedy. It will take a while before any real news about Kennedy’s last days will ever be printed. Few people in the U.S or around the world will ever know who or what Ted Kennedy was. Was he a Superman, a Super Catholic, a Super Legislator, a Super Dad and Grand Dad, or was he an arch villain, an elitist shill, a confused or polarized personality, or another mortal laid to rest with his brothers in Arlington Cemetery?
