In Part II of my reading of DeQuincey’s great story, he writes about his desparation and homelessness as a young man of 17, and the people who helped him and who he stayed with during his travels. There is an especially poignant description of a 15 year old prositute who saved his life, and a 10 year old girl who he shared a deserted house with, and how both survived but were faint from hunger.
