WHEN THINGS GO WRONG LIKE THE TITLE OF THIS ESSAY
5/14/07
When things seem to be going wrong I have always asked why. Why does everything I touch or try to do lately seem to have a negative spin on it? I generally attack everything I do with a positive attitude. What brings about the negative results of my actions seems to be more of a metaphysical, rather than a physical reason. I have always wondered if someone’s intense negativity directed at someone else from great distances can cause problems or confusion, or negative reactions to another person? I have read of individuals being severly affected by negativity directed towards them from great distances.
The black arts are ruled by this concept of placing spells on someone or focusing hateful thoughts against someone. I can live with anyone’s hokis pokis thoughts against me, but I worry about them turning into physical actions. Negativity is always best defended against by positivity. Anyone would be a complete fool to believe that he or she can live their entire lives without someone disliking them. A private individual generally has fewer enemies than public figures. Fighting off negativity as a public figure is part of the profession.
I’m certain not everyone who reads my web site or listens to my radio show, or watches my television programs likes me or what I have to say. Some actually get quite angry at me. I understand it comes with the territory. I am always interested in criticism that is written or said about me. I usually don’t talk about it publicly on my shows or write about it on this site. Why should I give any recognition to criticism against me? I seldom mention publicly the many good responses I receive. I prefer to keep personal compliments private and thank everyone privately who gives them.
The more controversial I am the more people get upset the more their negativity is directed at me, the more positive I must become. The problem with being controversial as a public figure is most of your enemies are anonymous. It’s only when someone breaks the mold, as a national or international opinion maker, do public agitators and critics in the media begin to criticize or attack them.
I read somewhere, that for every unsolicited email or letter an author or radio host or television host, personally receives from a fan or a critic equals aproximately 10,000 listeners, viewers or readers. I have received many emails and letters over the last 8 years; since I have been on television and radio. The vast majority of them have been very positive, but a few have attacked me. One Chinese visitor to this site responding to an article tried to extort money from me. His English was hysterical. I emailed a reply to him asking if he wanted the payment in noodles or rice. I never heard from him again.
Criticism is a good thing. It keeps the pipes of communication clean. Criticism is like Drano to the plumbing of communication. It can be harsh and caustic like much foul tasting medicine. I am as critical as the next person maybe more so. I enjoy a good argument. The problem is when tempers flare the argument often gets personal and can lead to hard feelings or name calling. I often get angry and unload my temper on the public so I have to expect it when it’s done to me. I don’t take it personally, unless it’s a threat.
Threats to one’s physical well being can be seen as real or not real. Some people say “Id like to kill that guy, or that woman, or that kid.” They say it most often, about their own spouses or children, when they get angry at them. I try not to say anything that crosses that line. I never think of killing anyone, nor do I ever think of physical violence against anyone. These kinds of thoughts can lead to serious problems, and create the worst kind of actions. Examples of this type of thinking is apparent in the Columbine and Virginia Tech massacres. These mass killers were provoked into action, by the continual negativity of their own thoughts, which attracted the negativity around them; until they falsely believed they were being persecuted or victimized. Negative thoughts breed more negative thoughts, which breed fear and depression, and often results in violence against someone or one’s self. Without an intervention of positivity,or psychiatric help and medication, negative thoughts unchecked can easily develop into destuctive actions.
I once knew a woman who was so paranoid, that she thought everyone everywhere was talking about her and wanted to do her harm. Everyone has felt paranoid at sometime in their life. Everyone does have someone out there who doesn’t like them, but not everyone everywhere dislikes them. This particular person was seriously delusional. How could she believe that everyone in the world was interested enough in her to dislike her? I can understand if she was Hillary Clinton or Condi Rice, or Nancy Pelosi, but not this Jane Doe.
The point I’m trying to make is, if your living or have lived someone somewhere, doesn’t like you or didn’t like you. That’s human nature. The more public someone is, the more people will dislike you. The only hope anyone has for success and happiness is to make more people like you than those who dislike you. Christ’s greatest lesson to mankind was to be cautious of this. He spoke of love and truth and did miracles and stressed faith and positivity in everything he did. He was worshipped as God by his followers, and is still worshipped as God by his followers today , but he was savagely beaten and killed by the many who disliked him. I never wanted to be God, and being Christlike can be very hazardous to one’s heatlh. I do not want to be tortured and killed or imprisoned because of my beliefs. I expect to be challenged for them. I expect to defend them, and I may convinced someone that I am right. I would take great pause before I would consider allowing myself to be tortured, or die a horrible death just to protect the sanctity of my own possibly misguided beliefs. I have no mad desire to become a Martyr for my beliefs. What I believe in as a certainty can change with greater knowledge and discovery. I do not know everything. I do not for one second, believe I know everything, or ever will. For this reason alone I could never give up my life for an abstract belief. Martyrdom is for saints and the insane.
